SGMP North Carolina was born in March 1993. Through educational and networking opportunities, planners and suppliers work together to create quality government meetings.

SGMP is a national association for individuals involved in planning government meetings and for the companies who provide facilities or services to those planners. Our membership includes employees of federal, state and local governments, as well as contract meeting planners, who manage government meetings on a full- or part-time basis.

SGMP is the only national organization in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to government meetings. Over 3,500 planner and supplier members make up 32 chapters of SGMP across the U.S.  Members gain benefits from the many educational opportunities, resources, and networking.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to enhance the knowledge and expertise of government meeting professionals. Our objectives are to improve the quality and promote the cost-effectiveness of government meetings.

Regular Chapter meetings take place six times a year over lunch.  Meetings are ordinarily held in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Each meeting consists of a business session and program and networking session. In addition, each year the Chapter holds their annual conference with educational sessions, key note speakers,.fundraising, and network opportunities. Meetings have been held in other parts of the state to learn about various hotels and attractions. Several FAM trips for planners are sponsored by the area hotels and CVB, following the day after the meeting.

The Chapter’s annual silent auction is the main fundraiser with proceeds going to scholarships for members to attend the National Education Conference and to pay speakers and presenters at the Chapter’s Annual Education Conference.
