Election Ballots Delayed

Unfortunately due to an unforeseen delay, the chapter ballots will now be going out tomorrow, Friday, March 26.  All eligible voting members (government planners, contract planners, and suppliers) will receive a ballot via email tomorrow for them to cast their vote.  If a voting eligible member does not receive their ballot via email by Monday, March 29 – please email [email protected] AND [email protected] and it will be addressed.

Chapter membership voting will now close at 5:00pm Eastern Time on Thursday, April 1.

Campaigning ends tonight @ 11:59 p.m. and Online Voting opens tomorrow

The chapter campaigning period ends today at 11:59pm local time. Tomorrow, Thursday, March 25 chapter membership online voting opens.  All eligible voting members (government planners, contract planners, and suppliers) will receive a ballot via email tomorrow for them to cast their vote.

March 22, 2021 (campaign period starts for all candidates)

  • Candidates may distribute appropriate campaign materials directly to any voting member
  • Candidates may distribute appropriate campaign materials via hard copy to the chapter N&E chair or committee member to see that the material is distributed to voting members at a chapter meeting being held during the campaign period. 

 

March 24, 2021 (campaign period ends at 5:00pm local time, for all candidates)

  • Candidates may NOT distribute any campaign materials or conduct any campaigning actions
  • If candidates are approached by a member after the campaign period, please thank the member for their interest in you and refer them to the publicly announced campaign rules/guidelines posted on the chapter Web site. You may also refer the member to the chapter Web site for additional information on all candidates.

 

 

Scholarship Available!

This year NCSGMP is offering one (1) scholarship for $199 for a planner or supplier to attend the National Education Conference to be held May 18-20, 2021 in Huntsville, AL.

Scholarship recipient can choose to attend in person or virtually. Please submit your scholarship application using the form below.

Please note that the scholarship recipient must be present for the entire conference and will be asked to write up a summary after the conference for the newsletter.

Call for Nominations

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The North Carolina Chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals is looking for leaders! Nominations are now being accepted for all five elected positions on the 2021-2023 North Carolina Chapter Board of Directors.  The incoming chapter board shall be sworn in during the chapter meeting/event nearest to, but before July 1, 2021. Their term of office will run from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2023. If you wish to be considered as a candidate, or wish to nominate someone else, the nomination form and information on the nominations & elections process may be found at https://ncsgmp.org/Nominations_and_Elections. The nominations period will remain open until 5:00pm local time on March 12, 2021.  

The chapter’s Nominations & Elections Committee is responsible for arranging and overseeing the chapter elections process. Should you have any additional questions, contact Erica Quillet, the committee chair, at [email protected].      

Any chapter member in good standing for at least six months (in the category noted below) prior to nomination shall qualify for nomination to and election on the chapter board of directors:

  • President (Government Planner or Contract Planner)
  • First Vice President (Government Planner or Contract Planner)
  • Second Vice President (Supplier)
  • Secretary* (Government Planner or Contract Planner)
  • Treasurer* (Supplier or Contract Planner)


*An exception may be made to allow a government planner to serve as chapter treasurer, provided that an supplier or associate supplier is serving as chapter secretary (and vice versa), thus not altering the ratio of planners/suppliers on the Chapter Board. 

SGMP has made several revisions to the bylaws and policies affecting chapter elections since this chapter’s last election. This year’s timeline has also been revised. Key nominations & elections process deadlines this year are the following:

  • Chapter nominations must close by 3/12/21
  • Chapter membership online voting opens on 3/25/21
  • Chapter membership online voting closes at 5:00pm ET on 3/31/21
  • Chapter election results are announced to entire chapter by 4/2/21
  • New chapter board members must be installed by 6/30/21
  • Code of Ethics form (signed by all new chapter board members) must be received at SGMP by 7/31/21

It's election time! Not everyone has the desire to be a part of the NC SGMP Board, but you can lend your talents to join the Election Committee. 

The responsibilities are very simple:

  • Assist the Immediate Past President to review the candidate nominations
  • Assist with communicating the results to the candidates

Commitment, Meetings, and Initiatives

We are living in unprecedented times as COVID-19 has turned the world upside down. The pandemic has affected all of us in some way, but as a chapter we are committed to providing service to our local chapter members.

As a result, the upcoming monthly chapter meetings will be free! We want to be sure that we remain engaged with our members and continue to bring you quality education and remain connected during this difficult time.

In addition, we have some chapter initiatives that we need your help with. Many of our members have experienced job loss during this time and as a result, it has left our board with many vacant positions. Please consider joining the board as we work to rebuild our chapter or running for election during the spring election. We will need strong leadership to continue to rebuild the chapter over the next few years.

COVID-19 Update

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in North Carolina, NCSGMP has decided to cancel all meetings for the rest of the fiscal year. Meetings that were tentatively schedule for April 8 and June 18 (Education Day) will not be held at this time. We hope that you are staying safe during this time and hope to see you again once we are able to reschedule.
